Callander & West Perthshire

Mahjong

UPDATE for this year

This group meets in the Callander Library on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from around 2:15 to 4:30 p.m. The 2026 / 2027 session will start on Tuesday, 25th August 2026 and finish on Tuesday, 22nd June 2026 but we will have a Christmas break after our meeting on Tuesday 22nd December, resuming on 19th January 2027.

We collect £1 from everyone at each meeting to cover costs and please bring your own mug for tea or coffee.

Mahjong is a popular – but quite complicated board game – originating from China. The tiles are exotic and add greatly to the enjoyment of the game. Although in China the game is closely associated with gambling, we play the Western version. Don’t worry if you haven’t played before as we have a beginners’ table, though it will help if you read this Wikipedia article before you come.

A subset of the group are very keen and many like to play every week and through the summer without a break. They are known as the 'Summer U3A Mahjong Players' and co-ordinate attendance via a special WhatsApp Group. If you are interested in joining this group, please contact the coordinator.

We have been advised that Stirling Council intend to re-purpose Callander Library and this means we will need to find a new home both for ourselves and our mahjong tables. However, currently we do not know when this will happen.

For further information, please contact Peter by clicking on his name below (as coordinator) and completing the form that appears.
