National poetry competition winner
Isobel, a member of our own branch, is one of three winners of the Third Age Trust national poetry competition this year. The subject was “What-if?” and the other winners were both from u3a branches in England. There were four hundred entries in all! Isobel's poem is shown in full below.
WHAT IF?
What if that January blast
had hurled its fury
before you flew from that safe perch?Your tiny form could not withstand
its force that felled you to the ground
and left you lifeless.And now in death,
your fragile body lies still
in feathered beauty;
your crested crown, gold gleaming
proclaims you avian king.
