Status:Active, open to new members

When: On Wednesday afternoons 2:30 pm
Venue: Callander Library

Either directly or indirectly most U3A members have an interest in how the Economy or Stock Markets affect our Pensions, ISA’s or Savings. The Investment group discusses a mixture of topics in a way that is relevant to U3A members.

The sessions are not about financial advice but about understanding and discussing what affects our investments, so even if it is just to better understand the information from your Financial Advisor, or what is a Stocks and Shares ISA or the different types of Investment we hope it would be of interest to you.

We currently meet on the second Wednesday of every month in the Committee Room in the Callander Library at 2:30.

We normally cover:

  • Investment News: What are the big stories that could affect the economy and our Investments, Pensions, Savings now and in the future.
  • Explainers: an opportunity for people with differing levels of experience to learn and discuss investment related topics, our recent topics have been:
  • What are Asset Classes: Equity, Bonds, Commodities, etc.
    • Understanding Financial Risk and our Individual Attitude and Capacity for Financial Risk.
    • What are Investment Trusts.
    • Artificial Intelligence - an opportunity or a financial bubble.
    • Active and Passive Investment
    • Low-Cost Investment Platforms
  • The Investment Game: Our group members can create a fun virtual ISA portfolio where they pick a set of Investments and we see whose choices are performing best each month. It is also an opportunity to see what others have picked and why it may have gone up or down that month.

Fun but Not Financial Advice

Though we hope people will share experience and knowledge and allow the whole group to learn more about Investment and the Economy, it will not be Financial Advice. It will try to explain, demystify and discuss topics in Investment and Economics which affect our Pensions and Savings.
